Bird watching

Bird watching

Fly high…

Zalamea la Real, in the province of Huelva, offers a privileged environment for bird watching thanks to its position in the Andévalo and its proximity to the Sierra de Huelva. With its varied landscapes, including pastures, oak and cork oak forests, and old mining areas, Zalamea la Real is home to a rich biodiversity that attracts resident and migratory birds.

Among the species that can be seen in this area are birds of prey such as the golden eagle, the black kite, the Bonelli’s eagle and the common buzzard. The great variety of ecosystems also allows the observation of forest birds such as the woodpecker, the blue tit and the coal tit. The mining area and its water ponds create spaces where it is common to find aquatic birds such as the grey heron and some species of waders.

During spring and autumn, Zalamea la Real is an excellent stopover point for migratory birds travelling between Europe and Africa. The proximity of this town to other natural areas in Huelva, such as the Doñana National Park and the Marismas del Odiel, makes it easy to observe flocks of flamingos, storks and waders on their migratory journey.

Furthermore, Zalamea la Real organises activities and hiking routes that allow visitors to enjoy bird watching at its viewpoints and natural landscapes.
